A twisted game is the easy way out for just one!

Synopsis: While on the run from a demented world, Stacy and Jack are woken abruptly by a comrades cowardice act. They find themselves trapped in the middle of a dangerous mission, searching for a sanctuary that may or may not exist. Realizing this could be the end of both of their journeys and not wanting to die with a guilty conscience, they decide to play a deadly game of confessions, Russian roulette style. The outcome will determine who gets the easy way out and who will be left to succumb to their infinite destiny. Through their deep conversation, they realize their pasts have unknowingly intertwined far beyond their current circumstances, causing one to take the easy way out and leaving the other to face the end of the world alone.

Q&A WITH DIRECTOR/WRITER

ANDREW SANTIAGO

WHERE DID THE STORY ORIGINATE?

The story originated about 5 years ago while having a friendly discussion with some close friends at a bar in Bloomingdale IL. The idea popped in my head and we started creating the outline form there.

HOW DID THE FILM GET OFF THE GROUND?

Though the idea came to me over 5 years ago the script was created during the pandemic. I Wrote the outline and most of the script during my down time as a server at Pequods In Morton Grove IL.

HOW LONG DID YOU SHOOT FOR?  ANY CHALLENGES?

The shoot was a little over 12 hours. The main challenge was the location. We had to shoot in between the sound of planes considering it was shot in a garage located in Parkridge IL.

WHAT METHODS DID YOU USE TO GET THE BEST FROM YOUR ACTORS?

I like to let the actors express their take on the character first. The I give some direction and observe the second take. Then we use what works from both takes and combined them for the final takes.

WHAT DO YOU WANT THE VIEWER TO TAKE-A-WAY FROM YOUR FILM?

That even though the world was over and all hope seemed to be lost, some wounds can resurface and be more painful then any external damage.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU AS FILMAKERS?

I plan to continue to produce short narratives. The next film in line is called Hunters Hunted and is a supernatural thriller.

WHAT MADE YOU PURSUE FILM MAKING?

Ever since I was little I have been a story teller. I started writing when i was in the 4th grade and realized that I loved to come up with wild ideas and concepts. As i got older I became fascinated with movies and TV shows. I value cinematography, audio, acting and directing. I then realized that this was my passion and life purpose.

WHAT ROADBLOCKS DID YOU FACED WHEN YOU WERE STARTING OUT?

Finding actors and locations as well as funding.

HOW RIGOROUSLY DID YOU STICK TO THE SCRIPT WHILE SHOOTING?

We stuck to the script about 90% but left some wiggle room for improve.

HOW DIFFERENT WERE WHAT YOU ORIGINALLY ENVISIONED THE FILM BEING LIKE AND HOW IT EVENTUALLY TURN OUT?

I originally planed the film to be around 5 minutes. This was before even writing the script. Now after its completion its a little over 17 minutes. Though it was a little different then I had envisioned i like how it turned out!

WERE THERE ANY ONSET PROBLEMS FILMING ?  HOW DID YOU DEAL WITH IT?

The only problem was the sound of planes flying over. We just waited to shoot in between the planes.

WERE YOU INFLUENCED BY SOMETHING IN YOUR PAST?

One of Jacks lines states that the parent should never have to burry their child. This was something my mother said when my brother prematurely passed away when i was 5 years old.

HOW CLOSELY WAS THE ORIGINAL SCRIPT FOLLOWED, WERE YOU INVOLVED IN REWRITES PRIOR TO OR DURING PRODUCTION, AND DO YOU FEEL THE FINAL RESULT WAS TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL CONCEPT? IF NOT, IN WHAT WAYS DID IT CHANGE? WHAT AFFECTED THOSE CHANGES?

The original script was rewritten many times but the film itself came out as planned if not better then planned! One of the best directorial choices made by our producer Fred Paul Bailey was to make the character Stacy a potty mouth.

“HOW MANY PEOPLE DID YOU HAVE ON SET”? “HOW LONG WAS THE SHOOTING SCHEDULE”?

Around 20 people including zombies. It was a 12 hour set.

ABOUT THE EQUIPMENT USED. DID THEY USE AVID, FINAL CUT, OR MORE EXPENSIVE SGI HARDWARE? DID THEY HAVE A HOUSE TO SHOOT AT?

We had a beautiful location to shoot at.  The film was captured on a canon R5 and was edited in Adobe Premiere.

WHAT DO YOU THINK THE BIGGEST SURPRISE ABOUT THE PROCESS WOULD BE TO AN OUTSIDER?

How long productions take even in one location.

WHAT IS THE TOUGHEST THING ABOUT GETTING THE PROJECT STARTED?

Writing the script and getting the team together.

HOW IMPORTANT IS SOCIAL MEDIA FOR PROMOTING YOUR PROJECTS?

I find it very important because social media is a big part of the modern day world.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT DIRECTING?

I love the process of turning the script into reality through camera angles, lighting and over all execution of the actors and story line. I love working with people. You get to meet some really talented and colorful souls1

WHY DID YOU WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN THIS PRODUCTION?

I came up with the idea and wrote the script so i thought it only natural for me to be involved as the cinematographer and director.

WITHOUT GIVING ANYTHING AWAY, WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE LINE OF DIALOGUE?

Play a little game of confessions.

WHO’S THE FUNNIEST PERSON INVOLVED IN THE PRODUCTION IN REAL LIFE?

Obviously me (Andrew Santiago) but Fred would say otherwise.
